When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you normally set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular provider. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically right after the domain address is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the Internet domain where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that handles the emails for that specific domain name. The website and the e-mail hosting are usually regarded as one thing, when they're in fact two different services. Having separate records for them will allow you to have them with different providers if you'd like. As an illustration, some new service provider can have excellent uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain name to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an e-mail - in either case, the provider whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you're going to see the needed website or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our semi-dedicated hosting plans, will allow you to view the A and MX records for any of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to edit any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is incredibly easy as all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to offer you total control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
