There are many ways to direct a domain to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. If you own a domain name and you have developed a website through some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve with this is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party company. It is very important to know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and working e-mail address with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently additional configuration may be required with the other company.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

Creating a CNAME record through our shared hosting plans is really easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in a couple of basic steps. You can find a video tutorial in the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you a number of options - if you set up a company website on our end, as an illustration, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you choose to create a website by using a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain name, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

You'll be able to create, edit and delete CNAME records very easy with any one of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are managed through the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you will see all records for any domain address or subdomain that you have added in your account. To create a new record, you just need to choose the hostname that'll be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type in where it is going to be forwarded to, select the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you're going to be ready. Even when you haven't used a web hosting service before, our CP is very intuitive to use, so you'll not have any issues. We also have a short video and an in-depth help article regarding how to create a CNAME record, both of which could be found in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you can easily use a domain address hosted on our innovative cloud hosting platform for a website created elsewhere, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, and a lot more.
